Questions people ask
A few things worth knowing.
What is Studio Operations, in one sentence? The back office for the working artist. You enter each artwork once, and that record runs your website, lookbooks, collectors, private prices, commissions, sales, invoices, certificates, shipping, history, and much more. It runs in your browser, nothing to install. Studio Operations is the product. Museum.Studio is the Los Angeles company that makes it.
Does it replace my website?Only if you want it to. It can host your site at yourname.museum.studio or your own domain and take the sale, or sit behind the site you already have. Either way the site is yours. Start with Home, Work, About, Exhibitions, Press and Contact. Make it your own with page names and content that suit your practice. Work stays connected to your artwork records.
Can I show my works on the website I already have?Yes. Studio gives you a short piece of code. Paste it into your website once and your works appear there, with artwork pages, prices and an inquiry button. When you change an artwork in Studio, your website shows the change. It works with WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, GoDaddy and Hostinger. Some website builders only allow added code on certain plans. Squarespace needs Core, Plus or Advanced. WordPress.com needs a plan that allows plugins.
What is my web address?yourname.museum.studio, on every plan including Free. On Studio and Studio Plus you can use your own domain instead, for example yourname.com.
How do I get paid?Use your own Stripe, PayPal or Square account for website checkout, where available in your country. Or collect payment yourself through Venmo, bank transfer, Zelle, MobilePay or another method, then manually record the sale and payment method in Studio. Collectors stay with you. We take no commission.
Who owns my images, and do you train on them? You own them. We do not train on your work, we do not license it and we do not sell it. You can export your artwork archive, images included, on any plan, at any time.
Is Studio Operations an AI product? No. We are not an AI company. Studio Operations is software for managing your artwork, website and studio. AI is an optional writing helper if you need help describing an artwork. It runs only when you choose to use it. You can write your own descriptions and use Studio without AI.
Can my assistant have a separate login?Studio Operations is designed around one artist and their practice. Every plan includes one login per studio, keeping the daily experience simple and focused. Separate assistant or team logins aren’t included or available.
What happens when the trial ends?Nothing is charged. You choose Free, Showcase, Studio or Studio Plus. If you choose nothing, the Free limits apply and you pick the ten works you keep public. Free includes Museum.Studio branding. After 90 days without activity, Free accounts close with a warning first and a link to download everything.
I already have 200 works in a spreadsheet. Do I retype them? No. Import brings an existing inventory in. Export takes your artwork archive out again, on any plan.
Do sold works count toward my limit?Sold artworks do not count toward your plan limit. Unsold artworks still count, even if you archive them.
Can I cancel? Can I switch plans?Yes, any time. Paid plans are month to month. Move up or down as the studio changes.
How do I get help?Through the help guides and the support desk, by email and tickets. Free has the guides. Paid plans add email support. There is no phone support.
Can I record editions?Yes. Add edition details to the artwork record, such as "1 of 1" or "2/10".
Can I record sales made elsewhere?Yes. Manually record a sale made on Etsy, through Instagram, by email or in person, with the amount and payment details. Sales through your Studio website arrive automatically.
Can I use my own currency and local formats?Yes. Your country sets them for you, and you can change each one. Choose your currency, including $, €, £, DKK, SEK and CA$. Numbers can read 1,234.56 or 1.234,56, and dates Oct 14, 2026 or 14 Oct 2026. Invoices, certificates and shipping labels print on US Letter or A4.
Does changing my public price change a private offer? No. A private offer keeps the price you gave that buyer, even if you change the public asking price.
Can I invoice in CAD, and what about GST/HST or VAT?Invoices use the currency recorded on the sale, including CAD. You can add your tax registration number, a tax label such as GST, HST or VAT, a buyer tax number, and a breakdown showing each tax with its base, rate and amount. Studio does not file or pay tax for you. Invoice labels are in English.
Can I show a second currency under my prices?Yes. It is off by default. Switch it on in Settings if you want it. For example, show your main price in $ with a smaller, approximate € amount in parentheses. We use the latest exchange rate received from the European Central Bank (ECB). If rates cannot be refreshed, we keep using the last rate received. Payment stays in your main currency. The second amount is a guide. Banks may use a different rate or charge fees.
Can I sell if I live outside the US?Yes. Enter the tax already in your prices once, for example 25% moms in Denmark. Buyers pay your price as shown. When a work is delivered outside the EU, or outside your own country if it is not in the EU, the tax comes off.
Do you file or pay my sales tax?No. You set the rate and stay responsible for it. Museum.Studio only works it out at checkout.
Which payment companies work where I live?Stripe works in 46 countries, including most of Europe. PayPal works almost everywhere. Square only works in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, the UK, Ireland, France and Spain.
